چکیده

Sir, The standard technique for diagnosis of human scabies is by microscopic examination of scales obtained by skin scraping, using a needle in order to ®nd the female mite in her burrow. Epiluminescence microscopy allows in vivo detection of the mite, and consists of skin lesion observation via stereomicroscope after the application of oil and a slide between the lens and the skin (1, 2). We carried out a comparative study of scraping vs. videodermatoscopy in 38 patients suspected of being infested with scabies (age range 1 month to 81 years).

Scabies: Advances in Noninvasive Diagnosis

Scabies is a common, highly contagious skin parasitosis caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Early identification and prompt treatment of infested subjects is essential, as missed diagnosis may result in outbreaks, considerable morbidity, and significantly increased economic burden. The standard diagnostic technique consists of mites' identification by microscopic examination of scales obt...

Diagnosis of Trombiculosis by Videodermatoscopy

To the Editor: Dermoscopy (also known as dermatoscopy, epilumines-cence microscopy, and surface mi-croscopy) is a noninvasive technique that enables rapid and magnified (×10) in vivo observation of the skin and detection of morphologic details often not visible to the naked eye. Videoder-matoscopy, which is performed with a probe equipped with lenses providing higher magnification (up to ×1,000...

Simple method of detecting sarcoptes scabiei var hominis mites among bedridden elderly patients suffering from severe scabies infestation using an adhesive-tape.

OBJECT Scabies infestation is very common among bedridden elderly patients. The standard method of diagnosis for scabies by scraping the skin requires some skill. Therefore, dermatologists employ this method. However, dermatologists are usually not present in most long-term nursing units. Thus, we tried to catch mites using a strong transparent adhesive tape commercially available for packing u...

Comparison of dermoscopy, skin scraping, and the adhesive tape test for the diagnosis of scabies in a resource-poor setting.

BACKGROUND Scabies is a parasitic skin disease endemic in resource-poor communities in low-income countries. The best ways to diagnose scabies in this setting have not been investigated. OBJECTIVE To compare the diagnostic properties of dermoscopy, the microscopic examination of a skin scraping, and the adhesive tape test in 125 patients with a presumptive diagnosis of scabies. DESIGN A pro...

The Diagnostic Accuracy of Dermoscopy for Scabies

BACKGROUND Scabies is a contagious skin infestation characterized clinically by nocturnal pruritus, visible burrows and contagiousness. Dermoscopy has been suggested as an alternative for diagnosing scabies. But, there have been few well-designed studies evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of dermoscopy. OBJECTIVE We tried to confirm the diagnostic accuracy of dermoscopy for diagnosing scabies...
